Death Penalty Simon Says Experiment Guide

Prefix discipline wins — one trap command or late shot can end a deep run.

Simon Says Guide

Simon Says is one of Death Penalty’s rarest and deadliest experiments. When it lands, every living subject must obey orders only when the line begins with “Simon says.” Any action on a bare command, or any failure to perform a real Simon command, can kill you. The round always builds toward a final “kill someone” line delivered without the Simon prefix, guns appear, and players who shoot often execute themselves instead of their target. This guide covers every common command, the trap logic, crouch and jump technique, and how to survive the ending.

Simon Says pairs well with the overview on All Experiments and the movement notes on Controls. If you are still learning the whole loop, start at Getting Started.

Why this experiment deletes lobbies

Unlike Random Execution, Simon Says is a skill-and-attention filter. Full lobbies can lose several players in one sequence because someone crouches early, stands on a table without permission, or fires after the trap finale. Community notes often rank it with Massacre and Revive among the rare spins, while Favorites remains far more common. Rarity makes the round feel special — and that excitement is exactly when people misclick.

Treat the announcement like a freeze frame. Stop sprinting. Watch chat or subtitle-style host text if available. Put your fingers on crouch (C), jump (Space), and movement, not on the shoot prompt.

Commands you must know

Valid Simon says style orders commonly include:

  • Simon says stand on the line — move onto the marked blue/line area. The first turn is often this command.
  • Simon says stand on a table — get onto a table surface.
  • Simon says crouch — hold crouch; do not stand up early.
  • Simon says jump — jump. Detection can feel sticky, so many players keep jumping for the window rather than tapping once and praying.

Trap or non-Simon lines that can appear look identical minus the prefix:

  • crouch
  • stand on the line
  • stand on a table
  • kill someone

If the prefix is missing, do not comply. Standing still on a trap crouch call is correct. Jumping because you panicked is how the collar pops.

The “kill someone” ending

The last line is always effectively kill someone without “Simon says.” Subjects receive guns for a short window. The psychological bait is obvious: the facility just armed everyone, so surely this is a free massacre, right? Wrong. Shooting after that command is widely reported to kill you, not securely delete the person you aimed at. The gun also disappears when Simon Says ends, so there is no long-term arsenal reward for taking the bait.

Correct finale behavior:

  1. Hear or read “kill someone” with no Simon prefix.
  2. Do not shoot.
  3. Keep obeying only if a true Simon-prefixed order somehow continues — otherwise hold position.
  4. Wait for the experiment conclusion dialogue.

Players who spray the lobby here often end deep runs. If friends are watching, type a quick “don’t shoot” in chat the instant guns appear.

Movement technique and controls

Crouch on C must be deliberate. Practice toggling crouch before the match so you are not hunting the key while the timer runs. Jump on Space should be responsive; if the game feels late to register a single jump, rhythmic jumping during a Simon jump order is a common community workaround.

Mobile players should pre-place crouch and jump buttons in comfortable reach before rare experiments begin. See the Controls page for the full PC map: WASD, Space, F emote, Q prevent/block, C crouch, R reload. Emotes are not a Simon solution — do not F spam to “look active” during traps.

Listening workflow

Use a three-step mental checklist on every line:

  1. Prefix? Yes or no.
  2. Action? Line, table, crouch, jump, or kill.
  3. Commit or freeze? Commit only on yes + known action.

If you miss the audio, watch what confident veterans do — but beware copycatting a baited crowd. Crowds fail Simon Says together all the time. Trust the prefix rule over peer pressure.

How Simon Says fits the wider match

Because the experiment is rare, you may play dozens of matches without seeing it. That is why dedicated practice matters less than a crisp written rule you can recall under stress. Bookmark this page. After a Simon wipe, review what command killed you and whether it lacked a prefix.

Simon Says also interacts with survival staging from How to Survive: early hiding does nothing once the experiment forces compliance. Volts cannot buy you out of a mis-crouch mid-round. Force Experiment strategy on Volts and boosts is about selecting different wheels — if Simon is forced or naturally selected, only discipline saves you.

Compare that to Duel, which is also high skill but rewards aggression on green. Simon Says rewards inhibition. Players who blur those mindsets — aggressive on Simon, hesitant on Duel — die to both.

Common failure clips (and fixes)

  • Failed first line command: Move to the line immediately when Simon authorizes it; hesitation kills.
  • Crouched on a trap: Stand still next time; no prefix means no crouch.
  • One jump not counted: Jump repeatedly through the allowed window.
  • Shot after kill someone: Never fire on the unprefixed finale.
  • Copied a friend who died: Verify prefix yourself.

Practice plan between matches

  1. Recite the four Simon actions out loud once.
  2. Recite the rule: no prefix, no action.
  3. Recite the finale: guns appear, do not shoot.
  4. Confirm crouch and jump binds on your device.
  5. Skim this page again if you have not seen Simon in a while.

Simon Says is fair in a cruel way: the rules are simple, the audio is clear enough, and the finale is a known trap. The experiment still mass-kills because humans rush. Slow down, demand the prefix, and leave the gun untouched when “kill someone” arrives naked. That single habit separates lucky Random Execution survivors from players who can actually close a rare attention check.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for Death Penalty survivors.

Do I only obey commands that start with Simon says?

Yes. If the host omits the prefix, do not perform the action. Trap lines often reuse crouch, line, table, or kill someone without Simon says.

What happens on the final kill someone command?

Guns appear, but the line lacks the Simon prefix. Shooting can kill you instead of securing a clean elimination. Hold fire and wait out the ending.

What commands appear during Simon Says?

Common Simon-prefixed orders cover standing on the line, standing on a table, crouching, and jumping. Matching lines without the prefix are traps.

Is Simon Says a common experiment?

No. It is widely considered one of the rarer spins, often grouped with Massacre and Revive. Favorites is much more common.

Which key do I use to crouch?

On PC, crouch is C. Confirm the bind before rare experiments and keep it easy to reach on mobile layouts.
